Morten Deichmann - Finfish & Hatchery Specialist
Morten Deichmann has a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biology from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark with additional courses from the University of Tromsø, Norway. He graduated with a thesis on the larval development and swim bladder inflation in European Sea bass in 1990.
His first professional assignment came with Danaq, in 1991 and 1992, as the project responsible for the production of European pike fingerlings for restocking of Danish lakes. Here he also worked with rainbow trout in a hatchery and small recirculation system producing fish for seeding cage farms.
In 1992 he joined Aquaculture Technologies Ltd in Cyprus as R&D and Broodstock responsible. His was in charge of broodstock, new species development, the optimising of culture procedures and protocols for live algae, rotifers and larval rearing in a dedicated R&D hatchery.
While in Cyprus Morten was recruited by the multi-national aqua feed company INVE and worked in several positions in Belgium, Italy and Asia as technical sales, regional and global solutions manager and business unit manager. He provided technical support to clients, inter-company and suppliers and was involved with strategic planning, sales, development and marketing of products for the hatchery segment, freshwater and marine finished feeds as well as premixes.
After a period with Primo Aquaculture (2002 – 2004) in Australia, running the hatchery, grow-out aqua feeds and equipment, he took up a position with Clean Seas Tuna Ltd. Here he was in charge of the production of yellowtail kingfish, the expansion of the hatchery segment and as general manager and member of the executive he was primo motor in the highly successful Southern Bluefin Tuna propagation project where the company received numerous awards including a “Best Invention Award 2009” by Time Magazine.
